Infertility
Coping with infertility can be very stressful on a couple. When faced with this type of strain, the pair can band together and become stronger, or drift apart and become isolated.
Individually, each person may feel guilt, shame, anxiety and/or depression. One study reported that women experiencing infertility felt as depressed/anxious as those who were diagnosed with a major disease.
Approximately 5-10% of couples experience the inability to have children (primary infertility) or the inability to carry a pregnancy to term following the birth of a child (secondary infertility).
